Learn how to activate a Workflow so that Headlight can start using it — and why this final step is done by clients.
Select a Workflow to Review
- In the Workflow Configuration screen, inactive workflows appear in orange with the label Inactive.

- Select an inactive Workflow to start editing it.
Tip: This example uses a Workflow added from templates.- The Workflow is set to Inactive so you can safely configure it without affecting your live data or sending messages.
Why Workflows Start as Inactive
- Newly created Workflows
- Workflows added from templates
- Workflows created by the Headlight team during onboarding
Headlight assigns clients to review and activate these Workflows after setup to ensure all content is correct.
Reviewing a Workflow
Before activating:
- Review the Workflow flow in the left panel.
- Click each step to open details in the right panel.
- Check Type, Assignee, and message content.
- Edit or refine internal and external messages if needed.
Tip: Run your Workflow in Test Mode to preview user experience.
- Once reviewed, scroll to the top of the screen.
Activating a Workflow
- At the top of the screen, click the orange « Inactive » button to activate the Workflow.
- Headlight will remind you to Save your changes.

- Click SAVE at the bottom or use any available save method.
- The button now turns green (« Active »), confirming your Workflow is live.
Tip: You can deactivate any Workflow by clicking the same button again.
Overview of Active Workflows
- Return to the Workflow Configuration screen using the link at the top.
- Active Workflows appear in green, and inactive ones in orange.
- This provides a clear overview of which Workflows are currently running.
